September 25, 201411 yr So a little background info on this anvil, it's been in my family for quite sometime (it's my papaws dads I belive) but I would like to know who made it or an approximate time of when it was made. As far as I know it has no markings on it (or at least any that I can see, I haven't cleaned it off or anything it's been sitting in the shop for as long as I remember).
September 25, 201411 yr Okay, I'll be honest, I really only clicked on this thread because it had "ya'll" in the title...and then PawPaw in the text?! You're singing Southern, son, but you ain't included no location under your name...correct that so people know where you are. Also no photo is gonna make it impossible for anyone to help, even some of the very smart Yankees on here. :)
September 25, 201411 yr Author When I do a hammer test the hammer bounces up pretty high, I forgot to measure how high it bounced. It also rings so I'm pretty sure it's not a cast iron anvil.
September 25, 201411 yr Could be a Wilkinson maybe. The shape of the bottom of the horn is similiar. Do mouseholes have that same shape as well. Never personally seen a mousehole anvil yet up here in AK. Clean off the sides and look for writing or numbers. There are lots of threads regarding cleaning anvils.
September 25, 201411 yr Author Thanks, I'll try to clean it next time i go out to my grandparents house.
September 25, 201411 yr yea i think its a mouse hole too - just got one to fix up / weld last Tuesday I will take a better look @ it when I hit the shop & get back
September 27, 201411 yr YEP looks like the same thing I have on the welding table I was told it was a mouse hole 130 wt
September 27, 201411 yr Author I found the markings on the side: M&H ARMITAGE MOUSE HOLE 0.3.26 I did some research and its about 110# and from 1820-1835ish
