August 22, 201411 yr Love the site. I've learned a lot already just lurking, but thought I should register and get more active. I'm an Electrical Engineer by trade, but decided I'd like to make some different kinds of sparks. I've always thought blacksmithing looked really interesting, but finally gave in to the urge. I've signed up for a basic blacksmithing course starting in October. I can't wait! I'll have to drive 90 minutes to get to it, but I think it's going to be worth it. Looking forward to a lifelong hobby (I hope!).
August 23, 201411 yr The differential equations and linear algebra, not to mention statics and dynamics scare me away from EE haha. Welcome man!
August 23, 201411 yr Have you checked out the Indiana Blacksmithing Assoc? We have groups all over the State.
August 23, 201411 yr You are a EE? I will try not to hold that against you. :D Welcome to the site IBEW 305 a REAL sparky lol
August 23, 201411 yr Welcome aboard Sparky, glad to have you. We're going to have to start assigning #s to Sparkies. I was known as Sparky for a good 2 decades because I was sometimes showered in sparks doing an overhead weld. I couldn't even get other guys on the drill crew to hold for me. I haven't gone by Sparky since changing departments, the highways maint had two Sparkies and didn't like the idea of a 3rd. so I changed moniker to Frosty, added Lucky to it because I am, DARNED Lucky. I can also be a bit windy but if You've been lurking that isn't a surprise. <grin> Frosty The Lucky.
