Klammer
Has anyone seen an anvil similar to this, idea of brand? Looks like a sawyers anvil but never seen one with the waist / legs of an English anvil before. Cheers Klammer
ThomasPowers
Yes I have seen them; that was probably a hornless anvil sold by one of the 200+ anvil makers who called the UK their home. They don't seem to get preserved as well as "anvil looking" anvils; but I'd love to own it!!!! John McPherson
A retired Williamsburg blacksmith has a whole shelf of them, mostly under 100 lbs. The big ones like that are fairly rare. Some had small hardy holes, none had pritchel holes.
jmccustomknives
Sawyers anvil. Great for knifemaking. Wouldn't mind having that one in my shop.
John McPherson
NOT a sawmakers anvil, properly known as a double arch, a pattern that finally faded out about 1900, but was several hundred years older.
