mikenancygreenwalt
I have this type of vise up for sale but what I am really trying to fine out is the real name of it or what it is called. I read about the co. that made it and believe it was made around 1852. It stands 35" tall. Stamped --Kinsley I.&M. Co. Canton, Mass. So people say it is called a holcomb foot vise or a step vise. Any help would be nice. Thank you, Mike
DoubleD
Foot vices are really handy when you need a third hand real fast.
VaughnT
I've seen them called 'farrier vises", but I don't know if that's the main idea behind the design. They are great for hot work that requires a fast clamping so you don't lose much heat. I've love to have one. If it works well and all the parts are there, it would definitely be worth $100 or so. mikenancygreenwalt
I seen one on worthpoint from selling back in 7-9-09 and they called it a caulking or step vise. I don't know what they got for it because I don't belong to it to look back in the archives. I may just end up donating to old mill that has a blacksmith shop that opens to the public most weekends. Thanks so much.
