yves
On a rustic armoire a bolt system simple and efficient. The bolt was forged from flat 1/4" x 1/2". The leaves (see detail) were forged in the manner of the blown over leaf scroll found in "Wrought Ironwork", page 29, available on the Internet. The other part, was forged with two fishtail scrolls from flat 1/4" x 1". The bends were fullered prior to bending assuring me of their precise location on the bar and yielding a lively detail (sorry, no pic). The client did not want any finish. I only wire brushed. The lag screws are not galvanised or otherwise treated. I offered black square lag screws but the client preferred the unfinished look of the ones you see. The holes for the lag screws were slit and drifted. I like the bulge we can see around the pivot lag screw. This bolt or a variation would also fit well on a garden gate. Shut. Open. Detail. Frosty
I like it Yves. It's an important secret of success, giving the customer whats s/he wants, making it look good in the bargain is the reputation builder. Well done all round. Frosty The Lucky.
