I Forge Iron

One of the favorite things I own.

It is so long ago now that I am not entirely certain just what year it was, but back in the day when Ron Reil was developing his web page, while he was still a teacher in Boise, I came across his page and started an email conversation with him that lasted several months. This must have been back in the mid '90s,   He had more time back then and his health was much better, so he was able to help me put together a replacement for my first forge, personally.  In the course of those communications we sent each other pictures of work we were doing at that time and Ron expressed an interest in trading work.  I was, at that time, occasionally making freestanding, winged dragon sculptures (which were actually rather naive looking) and Ron asked if I might be interested in trading for one.  I was admittedly flattered (still am for that matter as Ron was and is a better blacksmith than I will ever be) and I quickly agreed.  While I don't have a picture anymore of what I sent to Ron, I do have the item he sent to me, which I treasure.  Here are a couple pics of it.

Ron's web page is now hosted by ABANA and is well worth a look for you new guys trying to put together your first forge.  http://ronreil.abana.org/ You can find an example of one of his trivets there. I particularly like mine, however, because of the image on the tile and the signature on it.

Ron contributed a lot of time and information to the blacksmithing community, and his web site and the information therein has been used by people all over the world to get started in smithing.
