Redbeard920
I have 2 steel plates 1/2in thick that I was thinking of lag bolting to a 6 x 8 base to use as an anvil while I search for something better. My question is am I going to have issues with the vibration of hammering loosening up the plates? I dont have easy acess to a welder yet so welding them together really isnt an option for me right now... The steel rings nicely when hit with my hammer but I dont want to waste time or matierials if its just going to flop...
njanvilman
I am sure that there are enough smiths and members of IFI in your area that could help you with the welding and getting them attached to the timbers. It should work for light work. Lets see who chimes in here.
VaughnT
I would recommend going to the local flea market and buying an old rusty sledge hammer head. Hopefully you'll find a twenty-pounder! It will be far better as an anvil than a piece of thin plate. Comes ready to mount, has excellent rebound, and all the mass is directly under the hammer's blow. Charles R. Stevens
I second VT. While your at it see if you can score a rail spike hammer head. Tommas Powers made a couple of nice double Ended bicks
