Francis Trez Cole
I got this hammer a few months ago in a iron-in-the-hat. Dose any one know what it was designed for. I have never seen the curved end on a hammer. It seems to have a seem like it was drop forged. but I have looked in old catalogs that I have and have not found any of them. Jim Coke
Greetings Francis, Looks to me like a common sheet metal hammer that has been modified or abused. Just my 2c Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
VaughnT
Is the hammer face hardened? The "peen" looks like it's pretty chewed up, but is that from use or abuse? I've seen chisels with a curve like that used to clean out the bottom of a blind mortise in door jambs and the like, but never a "hammer". rthibeau
it is a scroll starting hammer, usually found only in a true Master's shop. It takes skill to start and hamer a scroll all at once.....
