September 2, 200718 yr I was thinking of trying to build my own hammer and wanted to know if it was hard to do so (since I am a beginner) Also were could i find some blueprints on how to do so?
September 3, 200718 yr If I remember right there is a good toutorial in the blueprint section of this site. Lots of good stuff in there.
September 4, 200718 yr making or forging a hand hammer isn't hard.......just form it to the shape you want, put an eye hole in it and attach the handle. It's as simple as that...don't let the details deter you.
September 4, 200718 yr If you are just starting out I might suggesting punching the eye first as that's the most difficult part and if you mess it up you don't have to throw away all the other shaping work. Pre-drilling a "guide hole" for the punch or slitter usually helps a lot to get the hole nicely centered---as does rotating the piece in the forge to make sure the heat is even on both sides.
