Adam C. ToolSmith
Hey guys/gals, I have the housing of a buffalo silent 200 blower, the fan for inside of it and an electric pump motor. though i need to figure out some kind of mounting system, im wondering can i weld cast iron to steel. i would be able to weld a steel bracket to hold the blower then. dbrandow
I'm sure others with more expertise will weigh in, but its certainly possible. Use the right rod and preheat the cast iron to about 500 or so.
MLMartin
Many blower housing are very thin. I think you may crack the blower. I would suggest some type of bolt on mount. Does the blower have feet with bolt holes? if so bolt it to a steel plate then weld on some brackets to the steel plate that hold your motor. Backwoods Blacksmith
I would not try to weld on it. Too thin etc. There has to be a way to mount it. If possiable please show pics.
Frosty
The halves should be bolted together so simply make a bracket that matches up to 2-3 or more bolts and there you go. Bolt it to it's new stand. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Brazing is the usual method of putting steel and cast iron together. Problem with welding is that steel melts at a much higher temperature than cast iron
Jim Coke
Greetings Bobwire, It's simple ..BAD IDEA... A picture where you want to mount your bracket would help.. You could drill and put flat bolts from the inside... Forge on, JIm
