March 24, 201313 yr I have two anvils. One is a 155# Hay Budden and the other is a 200# West. Both are in great shape however the Hay Budden has been used quite a bit more. I am thinking about giving one to a family member. Which one would you give away, and which one would you keep??
March 24, 201313 yr I've never used a West, but I have a 146# Hay Budden, and I find it to be a nice workhorse, although I do prefer my Peter Wright. The heavier anvil, especially if it's in better shape, might be the one worth keeping (providing it's a good anvil) . Wouldn't you have a preference already as the owner ,or have you not really forged much on them?
March 24, 201313 yr Author Thanks. Not forged on either one.Hoping to get some input based on others dealings with.
March 24, 201313 yr Heat some steel and hammer on each... then decide based on which one feels best to you...? Just my simple opinion.
March 26, 201313 yr Yup; asking us which anvil you'd like better is sort of like asking us to pick out a spouse for you.
March 26, 201313 yr Greetings Pulse,, Keep them both... You never know when you shop grows and you want more than one location... Or you may want to swap one for that other piece of blacksmith stuff.... swedge blocks... flypress...ect.... Daaa I got 20 Jim
March 28, 201313 yr Please post up some photos of the West. I have what I think is one, but have not found enough info from others that have one to be sure.
