antigoth24
Hello all, I had to take a brief break from all of those puukkos (they were starting to drive me a bit nutty) to work on a custom order. The title says it all. I still have to finish the sheath tomorrow but I thought I would share the knife so far. The handle is brass and cocobolo, but the end piece is a chunk of 200 year old walnut I had lying around. The blade is 5160 sanded to a 600 grit satin finish with mirrored edges, and a stainless steel pin. Overall length is 16 inches with a blade length of 9 inches. Thanks for looking! toolish
Be interested to see what type of sheath you put with this nice piece to compliment it.
Jon Smith
You do good work. I'm curious. What were you doing with a piece of 200 year old walnut?
Bentiron1946
Maybe he got it from a 200 year old tree? <_< That hilt reminds me of some ancient bronze blades from the middle east, was that an influence for you? Beautiful work! B)
Jon Smith
Well yes that would be the obvious answer. The less obvious one would be that the parent wood was reclaimed, which would give the piece a lot of character and make it more of a conversation piece. antigoth24
Jon, you are correct. The wood was reclaimed from a very old local barn and a knife maker buddy of mine snagged it and gave me part of it. As far as design goes I had been working on a lot of puukkos recently so the Scandi influence, with a Celtic/ LOTR flavor. The customer gave me full design freedom so this design was a lot more organic. Today I was able to nearly complete the sheath, but I will have to finish the upper brass plate tomorrow, which will be followed by decent pictures with close ups of the details. Thanks for looking! Private Entrance
Ditto. Brilliant. I don't know if it makes me want to go out and light up the forge, or just give up and sell everything. ;)
