May 31, 200719 yr Well finally got the fisher cleaned up mostly and on a stump. Still need to do some finish work on it. Sean
May 31, 200719 yr Looks nice, bet you can't wait to hit some metal on it. Wish my anvil was bigger like that. Have fun.
May 31, 200719 yr Wow its in good shape, horn is kinda shiny tho and pointy, you gonna regret that point first time you accidently run into it.
May 31, 200719 yr At least the blood will show since it's shiny, and the risk of infection will be reduced.:p
May 31, 200719 yr Very nice anvil Bear, I especially like the cast eagle on these and those edges... She's right purty!:D

I Used sandpaper flap disks mainly because it had some minor pitting under all the gunk that was on the horn. Sean
June 1, 200719 yr It doesn't need finish work it needs *use*! Unless you are planning only to do silversmithing on it... I have a 137# Hay-Buden that was in an unheated shop adjunct in a damp state since 1938. Don't know when they stopped using it; but the face has small pits; rather than grinding them out I am using the anvil and letting use polish the face out. Seems to be working.
June 2, 200719 yr Fishers are great anvils - I had a 200 lb one like yours - a couple of edges needed repair so I welded them up. A fellow smith bought it a few months later and used it for many years.
