Bentiron1946
I found this article on Mokume Gane by James Binnion where he discusses the depletion of the copper from a ring. Some rather startling pictures that show how the copper leaches away from the silver.http://ganoksin.com/...ster
Fe-Wood
I read that article the other day. Realy good research! I like it as a design concept too. Bentiron's link dosen't work- I hope this one does. http://ganoksin.com/blog/binnion/2012/11/23/copper-and-silver-rings-may-not-be-such-a-good-idea/

Bentiron1946
I have kinda always had the perception that all noble metals got along and it was only when you put things like steel and copper together that you got this kind of loss so it was a surprise for me to see this kind of metal loss with silver and copper. On board our ship, which was steel, we had sacrificial anodes on the hull to protect the hull from being eaten away by electrolytic action. In my water heater there is an anode that is there to help protect it from being eaten alive too but it doesn't always provide that much protection but I guess there is no way to protect your ring. It sure looks like after three years of wear that one ring looks somewhat painful to wear.
ThomasPowers
But copper is NOT a noble metal!
