oakwoodironworks Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I really like the adz!! I looked for one for a while before I made one for myself. Used it to carve a dough bowl. After forging mine, I decided that I liked blacksmithing more than woodworking and have been forging ever since. Keep up the good work. Always look forward to your posts of your axes, tomahawks, etc. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 I know a number of folks who got started in smithing doing specialized tools for their woodworking and ended up smiths instead! One fellow was a bowl turner and wanted some specialized curved shaft tools designed to hold carbide lathe inserts. So I invite him over, take a piece of stock and heat it up and stick the hot end in the vise and tell him to "grab the cold end and bend it to suit himself"---"oops too far!" "So bend it back..." "Perfect". We let it cool and next weekend he bought an anvil from me and started to build his own forge. Quote
Frosty Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Nice work KY, nothing less than we've come to expect. Oakwoodironworks: As Thomas says wood workers coming to the dark side and smithing instead is a pretty common story. I know several guys who just needed one special tool, usually a blade, chisel, carving knife, etc. and the next thing I knew they were blacksmithing. It's a nice addiction as addictions go. Steve Sells Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Nice work again !. its nice to see the woodsmen coming into the forge, this way seems much safer than when the blacksmith decides to get his own wood, RIght Frosty ;) Quote
