August 30, 201213 yr I just returned from demoing for the Bandy Blacksmith Guild in Escondido, California, not too far from San Diego. I had a quick trip to see a galleon being built by the Maritime Museum of San Diego. They have a smithy set up at the site, and the guild members get a chance to make implements and hardware for the ship. My host, Carter Pease, is shown at the smithy. One photo shows a little of the framing curvature. A few of the forged implements are pictured. The workshop was elsewhere at the Bandy Blacksmith Shop at Grape Day Park in central Escondido (see brick forge).
August 30, 201213 yr Wish I'd seen this earlier, I got into San Diego a little after noon, with nothing on my agenda. That would have been very interesting to see.
August 30, 201213 yr Thanks for the pictures, Frank! I think it's always cool when a group can get together and produce something historic that everyone can see how it was used.
August 30, 201213 yr Thanks for the pics Frank it's almost enough to make me want to visit southern California and I haven't been back in a long time. Still, it'd be an honor to be able to make something for the reconstruction or just eyeball it all. Frosty the Lucky.
August 30, 201213 yr Highly recommend the Maritime Museum. Had no idea they had a smithy there. Might be something to ask about next time I'm down that way.
