August 29, 201213 yr Hello community, This is my first anvil I picked up yesterday. It is a 160 lb. Trenton, 27.5" L x 11.25" H x 2.5" W. The serial number on the side looks to be 189348. I checked the AiA chart and it looks to have been made in 1925.
August 29, 201213 yr Looks like a perfectly good anvil to me, nothing more than a little radiusing on the chipped edges necessary to be perfect. Use it yet? Frosty the Lucky.
August 29, 201213 yr Author Hey guys, Thanks for the responses. Frosty - I'm just starting out and have not used it yet. Still researching building a detached shed and looking at Centaur Forges possible for a coal forge. I am eager to learn as much as I can. Since I am a novice to the trade what is your recommendation for going about when you mention radiusing the chipped edges?
August 29, 201213 yr looking at Centaur Forges possible for a coal forge. Kevin, I am in southeast minnesota (Winona County) and may be able to help you out on a nice coal forge. send me a private message if you're interested and I'll give you my phone number. Bob
August 30, 201213 yr Make your own forge and save some money. A lot of us have made our own over the years, both coal fired and gas fired. If you live in close proximity to others a gas fired may be better than a coal fired forge as the smell of burning coal can sure raise the ire or your close neighbors. Can it ever!
