Geez I didn't see you quench you're hot chisel. And where are the CATS their the best part of your videos?

I'd love to have a go at these, but have got to make some tools for it first.

I have a question about the faggot weld.
Presuming you get the metal nice and clean and flat against the other piece, what other criteria do you need to get the weld to stick?

What sort of temperature does it need to get up to, to weld?

I'd love to be able to do one of these at a show coming up soon! May be a little ambitious though.

Metal clean, cut threequarters of the way through and fold it back on itself,

clean again with wire brush and fold the end back onto itself,

Back into the fire and rotate and allow the metal to soak right through when it is just before or at small sparks starting to form, onto anvil and lightly tap from the end back towards yourself to weld the joint

Back into fire and up to welding heat again, then consolidate the weld

Practice on a dummy piece first, then you won't burn the horns off

I will be at Thame if thats the show you are on about and we can go through it there, also got an Animal heads course coming up on March 31st/April 1st Tooling will be made on the course

Nice salesmanship John. I am now very tempted by that!
Might have to talk to the wife again.

Thanks for the details. I will give this a go, when I get a chance.

What John B said. You can learn a lot from this man. I have.
