Featured Replies

Hi,

I visited Italy few weeks ago and I saw this intersting window bar (see attachment). Any idea what is the process step by step for making it. I would appreciate your help. Regards, Fellini.

Hi, I posted the picture using different format. I hope it works now. Thanks a lot, Fellini

Bars are pierced, ends are tenoned and riveted. Study it for a minute or two and you'll see the construction methods.

Thank you HWooldridge for the fast respond. Note that the holes are turned 90 deg in each bar so I wounder how they assembled the 4 pieces. Fellini

Any pair of opposing corners is assembled and then you can see that the resulting sub-assemblies will slide together to create the interior grid.

Yep,it works. so easy...thank you folks. Fellini

it would have taken me ages to figure that out ! :)

It helps to have worked in three dimensional projects for many years but some people just have better puzzle vision than others. I like to work with rope and am a mini-expert on knots, but my wife can barely remember how to tie her horse up! She could more easily take wing than to tie a "Fiador" knot from a diagram! We each learn to get by with what we CAN do though... so ask for help when you need it and help others when you can! This forum has been a great place for exchanging and advancing knowledge! Thank you IFI!

well said big foot - a lovely attitude :)

And another nice thing about this design is that it's very sturdy and would be almost impossible to compromise without a hacksaw or torch; it would be tough to bust with a crow bar.

its a fabulous robust appealing design. i really like it......

Thanks Brian. When I read the first few posts of this thread it reminded me of the one you linked to, but I was having trouble finding it.

I had it bookmarked because I want to build one of those to use at my shop for the windows in it.
