basher Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Hello all , I have just finished teaching an axe making class ..... it went well. we made a total of 10.5 axe heads (nine finished axes I managed 1 and a half heads only.), most students going away with a forge welded bow tie construction axe and a punched and drifted axe , one student only came for 2 days and made a big forge welded axe. I pre drilled 1lb blocks of en9 (1050) let the bashing commence...... punching:- Knocking the punch out. Using a set hammer to refine the eye and blade . and the bashing commenses an axe taking shape... At this point I got a little stuck in and forgot to take more piccies , here is me lamping a folded mild steel over steel bow tie construction axe. and refining anoyther with a little more finesse and the finished axes it was a good 3 days work%20some%20close%20ups and the others and finaly the group shot , thanks guys for a great weekend. Mr Smith Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Fantastic! An axe is definitely on my "to-do" list. Even more so, now. Thanks for sharing! Quote
TomN Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Looks great. Do you need much experience to go on one of your axe making courses? I really fancy it sometime in the future! Quote
basher Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 no experience needed , 4 of the students were 1st timers. There is a lot of bashing involved , all steel construction axes need a lot of hitting. Quote
TomN Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Might be an early birthday present for myself, next year. Quote
zold Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Ok, now there is one more thing added to the "I'd like to make" list. Awesome. Quote
