Farmall Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Here's the 205# Peter Wright I just got a great deal on...but I found a crack near an edge. How would I fix this to keep it from progressing and breaking off? Quote
ThomasPowers Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Look up the Rob Gunter Anvil Repair method Quote
jeremy k Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 There is plenty of very useable surface area on your anvil, I'd leave it and work on the other areas - only because an anvil re-build takes lots of time. That appears to be a minor blemish compared to the rest of it. Great find you found!!! Quote
Timothy Miller Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 Looks like some bone head decided to hit it as hard as they could with a big sledge hammer for entertainment purposes. No smith would use a hammer with a sharp edge like that on it. That was a pretty nice anvil with normal signs of use before it was unnecessarily damaged. That edge will take a wile before it breaks off I would just keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse. If you avoid that spot you should be OK. The deep hammer marks will be more of an impediment to your work than than that crack. I would turn my nose up at it as a professional but its a good anvil for a hobby. Quote
