Young addict with something to show

Featured Replies

Hello there dear smithers! My name is Jens Michael Strassegger. I´ve been lurking around on this forum for a while without realy doing anything except a small comment here and there.

Anyways, my addiction or whatever you choose to call it started 3 years ago and I havent been able to lay down my hammer since. (Its a bugger when its time to scratch that itch on the head)

Anyways I'll save the rest for the introduction thread. Here are some of my latest blades. (made in the last... 3 weeks) Hope you like it.

Feel free to check out my deviantart user where I have posted other pictures aswell! Deviantart Page

Best wished from Norway

Thank you for the compliments! The steel is i think based on Norwegian clasification cause the carbon steel i normally use are called "20" (1%carbon) and "15" (0.8% carbon) and the nicklesteel i use in the patternwelding is called "15/20" so... yea...

Its highcarbon steel with nicklesteel added into the mix? xD The one with the deep etch and random pattern I made with a old lamination (iron and steel) scrap which I had laying around, I thought that it was a bit of a waste so I wacked it out, twisted it and used the twisted lamination in a lamination... if that makes sense.

thats awesome and ive heard of 1520, ive had a few freinds that have used it. and I beleive 1520 is similar to 52100, another stainless steel with 1% carbon.

and i think i know what you mean...

52100 is not stainless, but a very nice steel, and last I looked its a bit above 1% carbon :)

haha guess that shows how much i know lol :D

and how far above 1% is it steve? i have a few pieces of it so i would like to get my info correct on my material lol

C 0.98-1.20
Si 0.15-0.35
Mn 0.25-0.45
P 0.025 max
S 0.015 max
Cr 1.40-1.60
Ni 0.25 max
Cu 0.30 max

FYI to be a stainless it needs at least 12.5% free chrome, not total content but chrome not bound up in carbides, This is why D-2 is not a stainless.

I mainly use three types of steel not counting the normal iron bars.

Its "20 steel":
C 1,0 -
Si 0,30 -
Mu 0,45 -
P max0,015
S max0,015 -
Cr 0,15

and "15 steel":
C 0,75 -
Si 0,30 -
Mu 0,73 -
P max 0,020
S max 0,020

And the "15/20 nickle steel"
C 0,75 -
Si 0,30 -
Mu 0,40 -
P max 0,020 -
S max 0,01
Ni 2,00
