A variation of that hold down I use: I found the top jaw from a pipe wrench alongside of the road on the way to a SOFA meeting and forged the shaft to fit the hardy hole in my anvil and then welded a T handle to the top and drilled a hole across the bottom of the shaft to hook a spring to and the base of the spring hooks into the anvil stand.
