Forge blower HELP

Featured Replies

This is my first post and I need help!! I have a Thompson Mfg blower Made in New Brunswick that chewed a gear that drives the fan. This gear seems to be a cast aluminum???? If anyone has an old blower for sale I am in need. Thank You ---Marty

Sorry Marty, no gear here. If mine dies I will run into the house and swipe one of the zillion hairdryers that have taken up residency in my wifes old hairdryer drawer.

Good luck.

Thomas Powers taught me that if I need something hard to find, I should take a box of doughnuts to the local salvage yard or machine shop. That has been one of the most helpful pieces of advice I have ever gotten.

Sorry, no help with the blower gear but someone made the thing so I'm sure someone else can make one to replace it.

Welcome aboard Mark, glad to have ya.

Frosty the Lucky.

Not knowing what this gear looks like I can only make a couple of suggestions if you cannot source a replacement

Can you not make another for it? If it has straight teeth they are not that accurate, and can be made by drilling, sawing and filing to fit

Alternatively if the base metal will stand it, put in pins and weld/fill between them, then file/grind to profile

Repeat after me "Me Blacksmith, Me Make Gear".

Keep saying that until done.

Then take pride when finished and say "Me Made Gear, It run now!!" :D
