lateraliss
Hi, I just bought this coal forge today. I am brand new at forging, this is my first one and I'm trying to learn as I clean this up. It needs some repairs, and I'm having trouble identifying the type of forge it is, so I can see what I'm missing. I know its missing a wooden handle, and the rod that connects to it needs replacing. What I don't know is exactly how the wood lever is fastened to the table and rod. I have some ideas but i want to be sure before I move forward. Does anyone happen to have any plans or photos of what this should look like when it is in working condition? Thanks for the help.
lateraliss
Well I couldn't find any information on this, so I decided to make what I had in mind. It actually turned out to work perfectly. The handle works perfectly, now I'm just waiting on a leather drive belt being mailed from Chicago and I'll be able to fire it up and see how well it works. Next is trying to find an inexpensive anvil.
Thomas Dean
You actually have it backwards. The handle should pivot at the point where you have it anchored and the end of the handle is attached to the linkage to the ratchet to turn the pulley. I think you will find that it is a little easier to operate this way.

ThomasPowers
At one time a lot of foundries all over north america made varients of these and almost all are not marked. Being marked does not change it's usability in any way
Royale with cheese
I know this thread is old but I just bought the same forge - no markings wnatsoever. Anyone figure out who made this?
ThomasPowers
Any of several HUNDRED various places that all made stuff very much alike. If there was one that looked like yours and was made by buffalo; yours could be any of several hundred other makers if it's not marked.
