ptree
This is the third of this type I have made from Hex cross section pavement breaker bit. Used an ash hammer handle that was a second but sanded up nice.
Bentiron1946
Nice looking hatchet, any carpenter would be proud to use that one. :P

CBrann
Beautiful clean lines, looks like a pleasure to use. How much does the head weigh? I notice there is no notch for pulling nails. I always thought that was a poor feature and idea. Why would you want to put that much torsion on the handle right at the base of the socket? Is the top face flush with the top of the socket? If you have ever nailed at the top of a wall and ceiling or in the corner of 2 walls you would know why I ask. Cliff
ptree
Cliff, I did not weigh, but about 18 to 20 oz, would be my guess. The hammer face edge is in a dead straight line with the end of the handle and the hatchet face edge, and yes I do know why. I have a very old steel shank "Plumb" formerly owned by my Dad, that I grew up using. And I tried those dumb nail head notchs once or twice as a teen and have not tried one since:)
pjh66
Thanks for showing your axe ptree. I love the look of it nice lines & finish. How is the balance for useing it to hammer or cut? This is along the line of style I have been thinking of as a camp axe for hiking. Be able to hammer in pegs & cutting wood & light enough for hike camping. Looks great
ptree
I have kept this hatchet virgin so far and have not used it. I have used the previous 2, and they work nicely. I have a similar Plumb brand comercial version and it works well.
