chyancarrek Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Minimal info and only one pic on the ad but looks like it's worth checking out. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/tls/1761702274.html Quote
Sask Mark Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Nice! If you pick it up, be sure to clean it and post some good pictures please! Quote
steveh Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 It would be a good deal if it is in reasonable shape,it must weigh around 400lb and with the stand, way less than a dollar per lb. Quote
monstermetal Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 I sent the guy an email, told him I could be there in 2 hours or less ;) Quote
Bluemamoo Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 xxxx, just sent this guy an email as well. figuring you beat me to it though. Grats! Quote
329373 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Hi ALl, It looks alot like my 500lbs, Columbian. JB Bergman Quote
Fe-Wood Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Well........ Larry........How was the drive?????? Quote
monstermetal Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 So how big do you figure it is? I made him a sliding offer based on what it weighs... He contacted me and said I have first right of refusal... I am going to send my boy down to gather it up but need to figure out what it weighs so I can pay the guy.... my best guess is 425-450... Any thoughts? Quote
Fe-Wood Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Including the stand I think your right in there. Then again, it could be around 500 with stand Quote
monstermetal Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Including the stand I think your right in there. Then again, it could be around 500 with stand I was saying without the stand... I think its heaver than that with the stand... I bet the stand is 150lbs.... I'll report back tomorrow :) Quote
thingmaker3 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Based on the dimensions given, and on dimensions given for several anvils on google, I'd say it weighs closer to 600. Seller's post has been deleted from Craigslist, but IIRC it was 22.5" by 6" face, with anvil height being in the teens. Even if it is "only" 500, the deal is still a "can't pass up" one. Quote
monstermetal Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Well not as big as I had hoped but at 410lbs still a fair size. Nice shape. Stand was 180lbs Quote
monstermetal Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I did get it. I told him I would pay $450 if it was over 350. $500 if it was over 400 and $650 if it was over 500. I am pretty sure it's a mousehole. The guy brought it with him from England. I also got a #2 fly press for $50 that has a broken handle. And I do think it's a keeper. It's in better shape than the 350 lb Trenton that I sits in the shop now Quote
Sask Mark Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Cool. That's nice of you to give him more than asking price. I'm sure he is happy with that. Please post pictures when they are available. Quote
monstermetal Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Before hitting it with a wire wheel Its got some chipping on the front edge but I think it will dress up... the hardy hole is really clean for a big anvil.... the only real "bad" that I can tell is its pretty flat back to the start of the hardy hole then it slopes off bad, its about 3/16 low at the tip of the tail... Anyone have any opinion on what it is? it has kind of a spine that runs to the waist under the bick.... I was told that was indicative of a Mousehole.. Quote
Sask Mark Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 The sharp tops to the feet are typical for the later Mouseholes too, while Peter Wright went to flat tops of the feet. It's a good looking anvil. I hope it works well for you. If you are looking to get rid of your Trenton, feel free to send it my way. Quote
