I got these along with a bunch of other good looking tongs, all company punched "ATHA" and "CHAMPION" exept for these heavy jaw-ed no name never seen anything like it before tongs. The jaws are 1 1/8" square.Has any one out there ever seen a pair similar to these and do you know what they are(were) used for ?
I ended up thinking they were blanks for the user to modify.
Thanks for any information !

Brazing tongs, you heat them cherry and use them to melt brass and clamp at the same time for welding things like bandsaw blades.

I could be wrong, never saw a set in person let alone seen a set used.

Yes, and some old catalogs even sold "brazing clamps" to hold the scarfed blades in a fixed position. I ran across one years ago and had to figure out its use. The blades to be brazed are held by two thumb screws leaving a gap for the spelter or silver solder and the brazing tongs. The scarfs are what I call "simple scarfs," filed bevels which mate together.

I have a set of brazing tongs that are part of my "size of tong is not strongly correlated with size of stock" talk I give to new students when I'm trying to train them to choose tongs that *fit* over tongs they think "should fit"
