stretch Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I am looking for a good book or articles on making locks. I have some ideas, just wouldn't hurt to read something. Quote
Svarttrost Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Here's something to start with. http://www.oldlocks.com http://www.lashistoria.se/en/site/hl/ Quote
Rob Browne Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 I have a printed set from Anvilfire. Have a look at articles 139, 140,145 & 149 a really great set of articles that make lock making seem to be within the scope of us mere mortals. Cheers Quote
Wayne Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 There is a book on making locks and padlocks but at the moment I cannot remember which smithing group over in America sold it. You can also try some of the umba dvds with Tom Latanne ( sorry if I spelt the name wrong) Quote
Jura T Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 There is a "Spruce Forge Manual of Locksmithing". For review see http://www.oldlocks.com/book_reviews/Spruce_Forge/locksmithing.htm. I have a copy, but I have only glanced it through. There are a lot of step-by-step drawings in it. Quote
Iron Clad Posted April 11, 2010 Posted April 11, 2010 Yes, "The Spruce Forge Manual of Locksmithing" is a good one. It's full of step by step instructions and diagrams. I cannot remember where I bought my copy from though. The ISBN number is 0-615-11822-4. Written by Bill Morrison and Denis Frechette. Copyright 1999. Quote
ThomasPowers Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 Are you talking Roman and Egyptian old or just Viking era old? Quote
Sukellos Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 You might find these interesting.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FUPU7m7hME&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paUZghp1-bY&feature=relatedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5_HhdkawrM&feature=related Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Sukellos, Liked those Youtube videos very much! Dogs, chickens and the kid in the smithy too, working with the old man, way to go, just like in the days of yore in the US, learned your craft form the old man. Do think that they could have found him a bigger hammer? I would like to see the innards of one of the locks though. <_< Quote
Sukellos Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I, too, would have liked to see more of the workings. I just happened on those one day when I was home, sick, from work. I have never tried a lock, other than a gun lock, that is. Quote
