April 22, 200917 yr Before and after pics. The one I found in the grass 2 weeks back. Took the grinder and the wired wheel to it and buffed all the rust out. Looks pretty good now.
April 22, 200917 yr That's a nice firepot. Time to set it in a hearth alongside a good blower and do some work!
April 22, 200917 yr Wow, that is such an awesome find. Thats like gold to a blacksmith like gold is to a gold panner:cool::cool:
April 22, 200917 yr That is a nice fire pot!!! I notice that this fire pot would be easier to clean out with a shovel than some. The sides of your fire pot have a nice slant with a smooth transition to the flat bottom (wide enough for a coal shovel). You can slide a shovel down one side and smoothly across the bottom to pick up the clinker and ash. No sharp corners or welds. Most purchased fire pots (Centaur Vulcan, Lawrence Industries, Sofa, etc.) are designed like yours so a shovel can be easily be used to clean out all the debris as needed. So many of the home made fire pots, that I see, taper down to the air inlet (no shovel width flat bottom), which make it more difficult to clean. This is certainly not a big deal, but an easy to clean fire pot is one of those joys of life.
April 22, 200917 yr Very nice. First time I have heard of the Can Blower and Forge Co. I wonder if your find is the last example of firepots made by that company.
April 22, 200917 yr Nice firepot now you just need to marry it up with a canadian blower and forge hand crank blower Mike Tanner
April 22, 200917 yr take a look at my gallary, i have had in my posetion some canadian forge and blower co. items on there , namely a blower, if you where closer i know where you could pick oune up...needs a little work but it works fine. traded mine for a 1hp electric blower.
April 22, 200917 yr Author I may have one coming. My buddy has something in his garage but he is clueless to know exactly what it s. He does know its a hand crank blower though, just not the name. Cheers all.
April 24, 200917 yr Author I gave it a clear coat because i despise rust and put it all back together. Looks pretty sharp. Not sure if I can really set this up in the city. Going to build a gas one for the city. But none the less, its looking pretty good. J. Edited April 24, 200917 yr by Jaret forgot pics
April 24, 200917 yr I think you did a really good job cleaning her up. Now ya have to get your forge put together and see how it works! Have fun :-)
April 24, 200917 yr Isn't cast iron wonderful stuff. If that had been welded steel it would have been nothing but rust.
