Devfix
I just found out, local company partially builds Humvee and parts for them and having scrap pieces left over. Not sure what type, grade, steel is used or how easy it would be to use in knife making. Thanks
Frosty
Sounds like you should ask them. However, armor plate isn't usually very good for blades, it has a weird grain structure to absorb impacts. Or it used to be anyway. Frosty
781
I think the armour plating on a Humvee is aluminum The steel is probably the same as a similar part in a GM or Ford Low carbon for parts that are formed by a press. Cars have had some fancy laminated hard to cut stuff according to mhy local fire depart
ThomasPowers
Depends on what parts and what they were designed for. While most of cars are low carbon steel there are parts that are generally medium carbon---like axles, leaf and coil springs, torsion bars etc. (I said generally as every once in a while you can run into a ringer---like a low carbon strain hardened leaf spring!) OTOH even low carbon scrap can be used for fittings to bring in the mystique of the source.
