Sometimes anvils can be regional, so that would help some. I don't have clue only guesses, so we will have to wait for some of the smarter guys to wake up. ThomasPowers Posted March 16, 2009 Share Posted March 16, 2009 The style with the heavy body and narrow "sharp" feet indicates that it was probably made in England; can you tell if the pritchel hole was punched or possibly retrofitted by drilling later? If it's punched I would say after the 1820's if it's a retrofit pre 1820. There were hundreds of anvil making shops in England; most pretty unknown so unless there are stampings it can be hard to narrow it down. One of the members a few months ago said he thought they were called mouseholes. Niether one of them have any distinquishing markings on them all I know is the 165lber sat in a field for well over a hundred years before the man I purchased it from picked it up. Postman's book, Anvils in America is pretty darn good for looking stuff up. But obviously it focuses more on US anvils then OZ anvils...
