Waiting on 400lbs of concrete sand is lighter, with concrete i cam tip it up and roll it to move it. Ive been using one i made in 1992 that way in several shops. it was a 4 inch otherwise the same. there is a picture of it somewhere in a post about vise stands.

You can learn more from a fail than an easy success. Ive known some really good smiths over the last 40 plus years seen them all crash a project - and come out better.

Picked up at Alabama Forge Council Conference. I also sold 3 that had been laying around for years waiting on refurb.

Finally had time to mount the anvil. 8×8 s banded together anvil base routed an inch deep on a bed of construction adhesive. The body is dead quiet just a light ting on the horns.

105 KG Refflinghaus 58 from Mr. Nietfeld. Will be mounting on a stand tomorrow. Soon placing is predecessor for sale Emmerson Tradition 150 from 1995.

It is a hand filing vise. I bought it new old stock 30 plus years ago in an old hardware store turned flea market in Gilbert LA, I remember because Ialso bought a new bench shear (still had the dried cosmoline) both for 50 bucks.

Yes welded across back to the 2 inch angle then a spot between each vertical tube in the back. even from the ends the appear to be floating.

New home for my slitters, drifts, and chisels. scrap 1 inch swuare tube and 2 inch angle. Sill need one for my larger punches and drifts. Probably use pipe. Waiting on stock so piddling between projects.

welded reins, used some old pitted half inch round so I had to hit them with a flap disk. snapped one of my signature acorn tong ends off while adjusting. just needed something quick for 1 inch stock.

yes the tax man loveth us. the shops ladder was the only exposed dimensional lumber in the house. Everything else, walls floors ceilings from the sawmill. Outside, board and batyon cypress. My wife moved with me 13 times this was her retirement gift.

Took out the temp ships ladder, put in the spiral. Not much shopwork other than cutting ballisters to fit and drilling a bunch of mounting holes.

New flue complete Today is tool making day. Spiral stairs go in cabin in 2 weeks after I wiil be fabbing a library of iron frame bookcases. Nice weather here in South Mississippi.

I was blessed to learn forge welding from Bob Patrick many years ago. I remember he said "the iron wants to weld". Turns out he was right, if you let it happen, it will. Not magic, clean, heat, tap. If you have a large surface area then some flux helps, but I think people generally drown the work in it. I try not to let the iron hit the anvil yil Im ready to hit it. Another hint, if you want to weld with coal you must learn to run a clean fire; that is tje most important I think. Oh, and practice, practice, and practice some more.
