  2. I made a hoof pick out of a halved horseshoe. jlp, it seems like you have experience with horses. What do you think I should improve? (I'm also not making this for myself; I will be selling this at our fair.)

  4. I read a book that said to etch it in dry acid from a swimming pool supply store and then wash it off in a baking soda/water mix. What would that achieve?
  5. I'm about to make a ladle for my mom, but I don't know how to finish it. I have the forging process down but know next to nothing about how to make it food-safe. the ladle bowl is going to be made out of brass, and the handle will be made out of mild steel, riveted together. (not sure if this is the right place to put this discussion)
  6. I just read a book that mentioned this! If I remember correctly, you brush it with oil, then etch it in dry acid mix from a pool supply store? After that, I believe you wash the acid off in a baking soda and water mix to neutralize the acid. I'm not quite sure. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The book was titled The Skills of a Blacksmith, Volume 1: Mastering the Fundamentals of Blacksmithing. Mark Aspery
  7. I would like to thank everybody who has helped me through my forging adventure on this forum. You have made a massive difference in this journey, and I am very thankful.
