  1. Went to a cool antique shop yesterday, which was a lot of fun, and found a cool little tool! A little hand-crank grinding wheel with a bench mount! And it works!
  2. here is a part of the email I got from some close friends of the Gunters, "Please pray for Rob and Bunty Gunter and family, Their two sons Chad and Brad Gunter both lost their lives in a tragic and bizarre accident on Thursday. They were both killed around noon on Thursday when a semi truck went off the freeway (I-40) and traveled across perhaps two to three hundred yards across the dirt and crashed into the building that both Chad and Brad were working in their blacksmith shop. The truck went practically from corner to corner across the building and completely through the building running down both men in its path." this is horrible news but I would like everybody to have good information about what happened that tragic day
  3. Before anybody asks, I don't know any of the specifics, only that Robb Gunter, an internationally known smith, just suffered the loss of his two sons, also incredible smiths. Some of you may know/heard of Robb Gunter, but the loss of his two sons is devastating. The world lost two great smiths.
  4. George, I have DEFINITELY learned so much from Robb Gunter. I got the incredible privilege of being able to take an informal class from him. he is an incredible smith and a whole lot of fun to learn from.
  5. i checked with a blacksmith by the name of Robb Gunter and he said i had the right heat, but im going to try a super quench with him later
  6. Hit a bit of a bump in the road with my knife; it was supposed to be 1085 steel, but halfway through, I had it spark tested when the quench didn't work, and it turns out it is closer to 40-point carbon! After I found that out, I tried to water quench it to see if it would harden, but still no. I might try a super quench just for fun.
  7. I always heard them called Christof Crosses. I wonder why that is?
  8. You'll have to let me know. That might be something I can do for road trips.
  9. Jim, I really love those candle holders. I was about to make my own out of pipe, but I might also have to make some of those.
  10. Jer, the handle is made out of desert ironwood. and yes I do plan on finishing the sanding afterward
  11. I'm almost done with making my first real knife. And I have someone who wants to buy it as my first commission. I just need to fit the handle, finish sanding the guard and blade, and harden the knife.
  12. I got my first commission about a week ago. He doesn't know what he wants yet, but I sent him a few pictures of things I made.
  13. jlp, I love that punch organizer, I might have to steal that one.
  14. good to know, thanks! Right now, my two options for grinding are an angle grinder, and a 1x12in mini belt sander that has trouble getting through some types of wood, soooo...
  15. The motor for the H7760 is 1/2 HP. One factor is I will need a 110v motor because that is the only outlet available for my shop I'm kind of tempted to get more info about assembling my own now
  16. Well, now that same website is being blocked for possible hacking, so it's probably good that I didn't put any info on it Here's the same belt grinder but on the Grizzly website its the G1015 i noticed they had the H7760 for only $80, is that a good option?
  17. I found a 2x75 Grizzly belt sander for $40 on some resale website, but I didn't know if it was any good
  18. Would harbor freight be a good low-price option for the grinder itself?
