  2. Are there an " hammer in's" located near Rome Ga.? I have an idea what one might be but I have never had the opportunity to go to one? Or any other blacksmithing seminars or etc.? I am sorry if I have this in the wrong forum, but it did not seem to fit anywhere else....... canman:cool:
  3. Hello everyone, Yes I was vague as to what I am building. I have a couple of "paying" projects plus a couple of rail buggy repair jobs. When I build things I normally overkill it. Thats why I had such a large range, Up to 4". There might even be some roll bars or bumpers in my future. The first project is a bicycle rack like they had when I was in school. The 70's, I was thinking about using some 1.5 seamless tubing. This job has to look good. This is my kind of client. Money is no object, just build it........ I have made several items for this guy and he just keeps on coming back. :D Thanks for your Ideas and suggestions. Any more thoughts are welcome. Please remember to pray for and support our troops. canman:cool:
  4. Hello everyone, I am looking for ways to bend some round tubing/pipe with the least amount of distortion. Ranging from 1/2 to 4". Any ideas? Please remember to pray for and support our troops! Thanks in advance for your help. canman:cool:
  5. Hello everyone, I have been doing machine work for 25 yrs. I have tried a lot of the commercial fluids and have had some that were actually pretty good. My favorite cutting compound is lard ( not Crisco) and sulfur. This works great for tapping and drilling. It has an unpleasant smell but I like its performance. It is worth dealing with the smell. Whether it is a fluid or paste is determined by the ambient temperature. If you need a fluid just heat it up. Besides being the best, it is probably the cheapest. canman
  6. Does anyone know when the ABANA mags come out. I was given a membership to ABANA for Christmas and have not received anything as of yet. I did receive an e-mail thanking me for joining. It is disappointing not hearing anything......... I have been away for a while. Work and trying to start up two new business ventures. Have a Good Day or Night All. Kevin:cool: canman:cool:
  7. Hello Everybody, I am new to this so please bear with me if I ask a foolish question. I have seen several different articles on RR spikes. Some say they are good steel for knifes and etc. Some say there are not good for them. Some articles say that the are different grades of spikes. What do I need to know/or look for in RR spikes? Some say you need a salvage permit just to have/use them. Does anyone have the True ( on the level) answers and be willing to share your knowledge?   Thanks, canman

  9. Glenn, I am very new to blacksmithing. I have just recently finished building me a coal forge. I have been heating and beating when I can. I have a coal forge a couple of hammers, and a full machine shop and welding service. ( I have my own machine shop and welding service at home, it is my other job, the one I enjoy........) I have taken up blacksmithing as a hobby, and to get a different perspective on metal working. Kevin

  18. I rented my videos from Technical Video Rental. I found them one night while surfing. It was kinda pricey, but worth it. I think it was like 25.00 for the 3. I think you can keep them for a week. That price included shipping. Maybe it was not to pricey after all. It has been a while though. They have several other videos I want to see. They have a lot of different subject matter. I had great service and will use them again. I would recommend them also. Good Luck....:D
  19. Hello from Ga. I am a machinist also . Wish I was retired. Work keeps getting in the way of my hobbies. I am working as a maintenance machinist now. It is no fun, nothing new. I worked in a job shop for 12 years, now that was cool........ Any how, I too have a machine shop at home so I do have a little fun and make a buck every now and then, although most jobs are for free. I have some good neighbors and farmer friends who keep me busy, mostly repaying favors and such. Glad you are on board. Welcome............:D
  20. Brian, Your son and your family are now in our thoughts and prayers, along with our family and friends who are serving in the military of the greatest country in the world. And by GODS grace and his many blessings it will stay that way........ I read and reply on several metal working forums as time permits. I have been ending my threads: Please remember to PRAY for and SUPPORT our troops and their families. It seems as if some are annoyed by this. If it due to the loss of a loved one you have my deepest sympathies and also my appreciation. As we all should know by now is that Freedom is not free...... If this annoies you because you are tired of hearing about it Think about where you are and all that you have, and thank GOD. Then thank our soldiers and their families. With out GOD and our military we are nothing............................... Remember to PRAY for and SUPPORT our troops and their families. May GOD richly bless. Kevin Middleton Rome Ga.
