  1. Michael- I think it could be pretty cool to intentionally make a kerbal- convex eyes would be difficult, but blank face or manic grin, disproportionately big head... Could be a fun project.
  2. Yes, KSP 2 next year. I've tried the demo version and even that, with very very limited function compared to the real one, is very complex and quite enjoyable.
  3. Kerbal Space Program was released to the public on June 24 2011. It's a continuous game in which the player builds rockets and space planes to accomplish certain missions or just mess around. The game is half serious (some of the people at NASA use it for very early stage testing) and half the most unserious thing you can imagine. You use Kerbals as your rocket crew. Here is an image of Jebediah Kerman, the most famous Kerbal, testing a jetpack.
  4. The copper seems to be darkening, so I'll probably just leave it alone besides polishing it more when I get new paper.
  5. Next time I want to use more coins and make sure I don't drill as deep. Also I need some higher grit sandpaper. After sanding- I need higher grit paper and a buffing wheel. Still looking for an echant or something.
  6. Michael- Please don't be offended by this. For me, it's a compliment in every sense of the word. He looks a bit like a Kerbal from Kerbal Space Program. Except his eyes are concave, not frighteningly convex. Ok, not that much, but still gave me a chuckle to think about. Today I retried mokume... didn't end up exactly how I wanted, as I know I have some cold shuts, and only ended up with 7 of my 12 quarters, but it's a start. I need to sand it a bit more and polish, but does anyone have any suggestions on coloring? I was going to just let it color itself through the air or use ammonia and salt, but I thought I should ask.
  7. Alright. I saw the ones on making and choosing them, but I was just looking to see what you guys had come up with. And I'm not really thinking of having a BS business. At least not in the forseeable future. George, I really like that one! Simple, clean, but very nice.
  8. I'm looking at designing a touch mark. I don't know if or when it will be manufactured, but I'm looking for a little inspiration. Not looking to steal anyone's touchmark design, just get a feel for how complex they should be, etc.. Also just interested to see what you brilliant people have come up with!
  9. BB- Now why didn't you ever try that? It's an investment. Unlike you, apparently, they care about their descendants. Lol
  10. Nice, Kerryd! Unfortunately I do not have a forge burner... If I get a propane forge, though, I will probably give that a try. Did you make yours or buy it? You can also use half dollars for a lower layer billet. An Ike dollar has the equivalent weight to: 2 JFK half dollars, 4 quarters, or 10 dimes, all of which have the same composition. They all have the same value:weight ratio. You can use that to change your layer count how you want.
  11. Cool! That definitely makes sense. I made a knife for my dad a month back, forgetting that he has sausage fingers... It fit perfectly for my mom, though. Very nice. Good luck on future projects!
  12. Osage Orange? I do believe you mean monkey brain trees. I've used bows made from it (never gotten to make one) and used it as firewood. Also had plenty of fights throwing the brains at people. The best one was as a boy scout, we went to a campsite that had treehouses and we spent 3-4 hours chucking monkey brains at one another.
  13. Natkova, I had that happen too! I've also magically had a dripping piece of steel that was shorter than before! I am not good at forging. By now I've learned not to forge with the shopvac on, though. Strictly for preheat. Looks good, JHCC! Is that just to keep chisels and punches from chipping? BTW, is there some kind of hammer (besides wood) that you can use on hot steel without getting rid of the texture? I mean for like bending rebar but keeping the rebar texture. Some nonferrous alloy?
  14. Wow, beautiful polish! What grit is that? Just for future, I'd make the tang a bit thinner to reduce the weight. Is that a touch mark or a hammer mark in the center of the blade? If a hammer mark, it doesn't look bad, if a touch mark, very nice, what does it stand for? Handle shape doesn't look to have quite enough meat on it, but neither do the handles I make... All in all, it's a good start, better than what I've done... You and I are learning together! Just my $0.02.
  15. I have only 200# of coal and a 15# RR anvil, but still...
  16. Alright. That makes sense. I guess I'm just spoiled XD. Probably would be good for me to learn to clean up my messes better.
  17. Glad you figured it out. Both gorgeous. I went to WY when I was ten, one of the best trips of my life. Not too much hardwood, though.
  18. I was going for an upswept skinner, which is where the point is nice. I was hoping to do an engraving or etching. It's also just a CAD model and once I start on steel, this is all going to fall apart, guaranteed. I really struggled with this CAD. Not sure why. It didn't end up with any of the grace I'd like to have in the finished product.
  19. Hoping to make a squirrel tail knife one of these days... please excuse my poor spline control. So many projects I want to make! So little good weather! Why not take the whole enterprise? The name's got a good history...
  20. Well... We can approximate by process of elimination. Where has it struck before?
