now you are putting pressure on the rod side (to pull the die down), you want to put pressure on the other side of the cylinder. So disconnect the hoses, flip the cylinder and connect it back up again. So the hose do not change position. Just do as we describe and see if it changes things. There are not many more ways I can explain it without making a full on drawing and diagram.

Also switch the hoses. Just a question, the frame of the press, was that a home made or bought? Since I have a good idea why you are having trouble with the hydraulics, i also see some things in the design that bother me. Moving pieces where the pain is scraped is never a good sign.

Nail on the head sir, P=U*I So 230Vac * 16A = 3680 Watt The man with the food truck was about 50, so I blame it more on him being very dense. Drool... I love special tools, and taps are very prone to damage if you make even the smallest error.

Yup, what Swede said, he wanted an answer without math. If you use a cylinder you use the part that has the most force, not the part that has the least force. 50% more surface, and also you are move a lot less oil when the cylinder is flipped, right now you are putting in 19gpm (if you go full flow) and have to move double that from the piston side of the cylinder. Guess how much force that takes. If it is flipped you extend the cylinder with 19gpm, with pressure over the entire surface (so without the rod) and you only have to move 9,5gpm from the rod side (which removes a lot of pressure from the return hoses). The 1/2" hoses should be big enough, we used those on 100 L/min and 160 bar, but I think that T-piece with the meter is pretty small. I would make the following change from that setup with the meter: change the EW (elbow) to a ET (T with a nut in the middle), put the hose on one side, and use a GZ (2 nuts connected back to back) to connect the meter. This will remove a lot of friction.

I did the electrical systems for a food truck once, they wanted about 10kW from a single 230Vac 16A connection. I just gave up after 2 hours of explaining.

As long as you don't go bigger then the size of the tap. I am pretty lucky with my tools for drilling and tapping, my old boss threw so much away (Cuz buying stuff is better then making stuff, away with all the tools) I have a good stash of drills from 1mm up to 10mm (in steps of 0.1mm) and hands full of different sized machine grade taps.

What did you do in the shop today?
Just use the right type of tap, and drill the hole a size where there is not as much chance of breaking the tap. With metric taps you take the size of the thread you want (like M8 or M10) and multiply that by 0.8 to get the hole size. My next project will be changing the breaker that powers my shed, my old welder pulls a pretty hefty spike and the B16A does not like that, hopefully a C16A will change that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_accumulator Must be lost in translation then, since accumulators are as well knows as pumps in hydraulics Some pictures of your cylinder, hose/pipes, pump and controls will give me a good idea of what you are working with, since the cylinder is bought (and with that I guess it is brand new) the seals should be good and not be your problem. Also, measure your pipe/hoses, maybe they are way to small for the amount of oil your try to force trough them and that creates lots of turbulence in the flow. Is the pump outfitted with a safety valve? Or is it just the control valve?

keep in mind that most nuts have a coating that makes is very hard to weld them, and the stuff that comes from them when you weld them is very bad for you. Why not just drill a hole in a piece of metal and thread it yourself?

To get back On topic ^^ Since I ripped my vice clean of my table (8x50 woodscrews are worthless) I got myself a 3mm thick steel plate to put on top of the wood, and made myself a little stand to get the vice up to my elbow height.

Help to design ventilation
Hallo buurland genoot. Since you have plasterboard all around your forge I take it it is closed from the back? The fan you posted is maybe a bit to much, your shop is only 40m3. That would mean the fan refreshes the air about 80 times each hour. Why not use a old extractor hood?

Ventilation question.
A easy way to check that is by getting something that smokes a lot, place it into something you can safely hold, and walk around the shop. If the smoke stays in the shop you have bad ventilation. I usually use white sage for that.

There have been some problems with cows indeed, since some genius thought it be cool to have cows roaming free in some woods. People can walk trough those woods, but people don't understand that cows are A: very big B: very protective of their delicious baby's C: pack animals. Short story: people try to pet baby cow, mama cows get very very angry -> people break bones. Or people walking trough herds of cows with their dogs, cows don't like dogs, almost kill both woman and their dogs.

What pressure are you working on? Do you have any control over said pressure? Do you have pictures of your setup? What kind of cylinder are you using? (telescopic, plunder) Did you make the cylinder yourself? What kind of seals does it have? Are you using a accumulator? I worked with hydraulic systems for a few years and know a bit about them, but I need a lot more information before I can give you advice. And what you did so far was not the smartest thing. To continue on what Frosty said, oil under pressure is very very dangerous. I would rather zap myself with 230 Vac then have oil penetrate my skin (can happen very easy with a small pinhole) Why? Because the oil will spread under your skin, and there is no way to get the oil out of said skin. Once worked with a fool who tried to find a leaking hose inside of a pump reservoir, he found the hole with one of his fingers. The oil penetrated his skin and he thought not much of it when they brought him to the hospital. One surgery later he was a one armed man.

Crazy as it may sound, I sort of envy the wildlife you guys have over there. All we have is cows... And maybe one wolf, and if the farmers get their way, that puppy is dead for sure.

Tree frogs are also very pretty, but with 2 dachshunds, room for my training, my wife's reflexology/treatment room and the standard things like sleeping and stuff, the house is already pretty full. That is the one I love, one moment it is just a normal squid thingy, the next it is doing some freaky light show to get you into its belly, or it changes the texture of its skin to be like "ima rock now".
