Been awhile since I've posted anything. ( a long while). So here is a small bell forged from black pipe.

The one thing that kind of goes together is to take pictures and let them do all the work. Those little imperfections that you are seeing in the new work would be an excellent gauge for the new smith a year or so down the road to compare his work from then to the future. For you as a teacher you can do the same with pictures and you yourself can see if your teaching methods are improving the student. By forging the harder parts for them they are not learning. Just my thoughts.

I just got back from John C. Campbell working with Clay Spencer do traditional joinery. All I can say is what a wonderful experience and great people. Here are some pics of the completed project.

Thanks! I blackened it in the coal fire and then a lite wire brushing, and finally a coat of semi gloss clear laquer.

Here are a few pics of a moose head key chain holder I was commissioned to do. The antlers are about 8" across and the head was forge from 1-1/2 .

Just a little tip you can take it or leave it, but I like to put a little pine tar like what the baseball players use on their bats on my hammer handles. Just my .02.

This one is made out of 0-6 not the very best steel for a hammer but it was free and this was my first try so I just went with it. After heat treat I put it on the Rockwell tester and it rockwelled at about 52 on the c scale

Well, this is my first time forging a hammer, and I have to say I am pretty pleased. I was very apprehensive about starting this project but, now I can't wait to start another one. This one only weighs in at 1 3/4lbs. I believe I will be giving this first one to my son for his birthday in February, any way as usual any critiques or critisms are welcome. Always looking to step it up a notch. Will be heat treating tomorrow. Maybe I can get a handle on it too!

Well been real busy the last two weeks, but it's totally worth it. I finally have a place to smith. Thought I would share my progress. Thankyou guys here at iforge for all the great ideas.
