  1. Hello everyone, I have not made a post in awhile so I figured I would show some pic of my latest creation. There was no paticular reason for this project, just wanted to hit some hot metal and this is what I got
  2. I would say as long as you position your legs under the anvil you should be fine the energy will transfer through the gate down the legs if they are directly under the anvil . Where your legs are now in the picture looks good
  3. I had an aso given to me and what I did was weld a piece of AR plate about 3/8" thick. Now the key to get this plate to stick is useing a high nickel rod, also you need to drill several holes in your plate so you can plug weld the plate to the anvil in order to draw it up tight. Then all you do is weld a little overlay rod on your plug welds and presto you have a very good useable anvil. My 8 year old son uses this anvil for everything including a little smithing and it has held up great and he even has almost taken out an eye from missing his work piece and striking the anvil, it bounced back and got him right in his safty glasses. So I guess if there is a will there is a way.
  4. Hey folks just wanted to show y'all my local auction find. I paid 105 dollars for it. I kinda took a gamble on it because I didnt know if it was what I thought it was because it had like a inch of paint on it. I wire wheeled the paint off and sure enough I got me a nice little peter wright. Weight marks show it to be a 72 pounder. I think it will make a great little travel anvil. Its in pretty good shape too. Does anyone know how to date these anvils somewhat, just curious as to how old this thing might be.
  5. Been awhile since I have had a post on here, so I will show you guys my second knife and first attempt at damascus. It is made from bandsaw blade and pallet strapping. It is only about 32 layers as I wanted to keep it simple for my first try at damascus. Feedback is welcomed.
  6. there is a small feed store in clare where I get mine it is very good coal. I cant think of the name of it but I will check my stuff and see if I cant get back to you with the name.
  7. I have used the tri stain but it was called aquafortis. I used it to stain gun stocks for muzzleloaders. The aquafortis is a water base so you have to make sure you whisker the wood before you apply but it sure makes a beautiful stain.
  8. Oak hill, Please post some of those pictures. They would be greatly appriciated and maybe a ruler next to them as to get a really good idea as to size of material. I really didnt expect this much response thanks for all the info everyone.:D
  9. I have used a rag soaked with WD-40 and draped over my anvil it seems to work pretty well though mine is in a shop but still should work outside
  10. Thankyou very much for the info. It is greatly appreciated and when I get one done I will definately post a pic
  11. Thats a little bit larger than I was thinking. But interesting those must be some pretty big bears.
  12. Hey guys. I have a question. I would like to make a bear trap and I can not find any dimensions on the net and I do not have access to one to get dimensions. If anyone out there has access to one and could get dimensions off it for me or if you have found a print for one I would greatly appreciate any info you guys could give me.
  13. I started out on a hf aso, not knowing any better. Now I have a fisher norris and a arm and hammer and I will tell you what both anvils made the job alot easier.
  14. Hello I have come to inherit two anvils one is a 90lb fisher and the other is a 123 lb arm and hammer. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with either one of these brands and if they are of any good quality. I have not used either one but hope to soon. Any information would be greatly appreciated
