  2. I know know where my elbow and wrist are located from all that light and fast texturing
  3. Today i made 2 roses in copper, first a test piece to get the hang and than one i will give to my wife for valentine's say
  4. i have some oak and spruce lying around, but don't know what would be best. i'm thinking spruce since its softer and probably would absorb more of the vibrations than the oak.
  5. I'm going to make a wooden handle when i Finnish my drawknife
  6. This is my progres so far, i've haven't had a lot of time lately. And its posing more of a challenge than i anticipated. Lets say the learning curve is much steeper than i expected. But then again its no surprise when your trying to run before i can walk.:) I even made a video of my atempt to upset the bar
  7. I had some scrap from a former project at work and a slow day so I ended up with a striking anvil, a pair of tong blanks and spring fuller
  8. jlpservices: Nice video i really liked it, i'm going to try it the way you did it. What size bar did you use??
  9. i love the blue bosch gws 17-125cl a lot, we use and abuse them all day long and they keep on working. especially when grinding gantry rails and when you need to take material down when hard facing stuff, grinding welds out . we tried other butt they don't hold up verry long when using the cubitron discs. at home the makita does a nice job
  10. i finished my first hammer today, its made from an old machine axle its about 3.1kg or 6 pounds. the handle is a store bought one since i don't have any hickory at hand or know where to find it around here. its got a round side and a flat side. the main plan is to use it to move the bulk off material and the continue with a smaller hammer. i hardend it an then oven temperd it at 255°c/490°f for about 3 hours so i'm ver curious how it will preform.
  11. I realy like your idea, i think 'll try that route
  12. I have plenty stock but forgin a 70mm axle down on your own without a striker or powerhammer ist that simple
  13. for my hammer forging project i'm in need for a flatter and i would like to make it myself but i was wondering if going the fabrication way ie welding a 60x60mm 20mm thick plate to a 40mm square bar would sufficient for a flatter. i would make it all out of mild steel seen is this i've got easy access to
  14. i made them to grab the hammer blank out of the fire and hold them when forging, my terminology might be a bit off
  15. made myself a pair of pic-up tongs for the shop, i did cheat a bit by welding welding on the reigns witch are plain 10mm round stock. next up is trying to make a hammer from some steel i got from an old machine axle from work. i think it CRO-MO, i did test its capability for hardening and tempering and it get nice and hard so i hope it'll work fine.
  16. started making a hammer eye drift, still need to draw out the handle a bit more and grind it on the belt grinder.
  17. tell me about it, i lost half of my hearing on the right side due to an infection and i always use hearing protection a work, butt now i'm even more conscious about it and tell co-workers to use it so they don't have to suffer the same fate as me the magnet is a general purpose magnet we use in the shop and on job-sites. mostly for holding anti flame blankets up to protect electrics, gearboxes, etc... we buy em in bulk because the tend to fall off of thing or get blown away in windy conditions.
