  1. Jobtiel1, I have no clue what a Dutch oven lid lifter is but it looks well made.
  2. An auto darkening face shield is great but until about 5 years ago I only had a old fashioned dark glass one and they work fine, position for your weld, nod to drop the hood and ark up. My auto darkening one is more convenient though.
  3. Finally got time to go down and finish my bench. The top is 19mm ply with a 2mm steel skin, frame is all 40mm box, the tool shelf is mesh so if anything drops under it I should be able to see it. The second photo is 1 upright from a small steel rack I threw together. Now all I need is a couple of big lads to help me get it in place, my forge is in a 10 foot storage container on top of a 40 foot container and I need to get the anvil out before I can get the bench in. Hopefully next Saturdays project.
  4. I often wondered why cherry red isn't cherry red. That makes a lot of sense.
  5. Hondo, take your time a stroke can take a long time to recover from. I kayak with a guy who had such a bad one he needed life support to keep him alive and his wife was told he would probably never recover. It took a few years but he fought back and now walks with a stick, kayaks, rides a recumbent bike and enjoys life. It sounds like you and Nodebt can help each other out too.
  6. Ferritic that is brilliant. I always thought a fire tripod was a bit of a waste of time in the UK, so few camping places allow fires these days. Suspending the fire pot though is perfect. It's a shame my camping days are over otherwise I would make one similar (though probably won't be as nice)
  7. Larry that is a cracking looking hammer, I fancy a straight peen but I'm a long long way from being able to make one.
  8. Went to do a bit more on my bench this morning and whilst unlocking the ram raid bar bit me. The handle is too shallow and if your not careful you hit your had on the tag that holds it down. So I made a new handle, plenty of room now As an idea of scale, the box section is 4 inch square
  9. Love the handles Billy. Also love the flower JLP My morning was starting to make a new work bench, 40/40/3 mm box section and going to be topped with 3/4 hardwood ply Wood with a 2mm steel skin over it. I could have bought 2 with what the materials cost but where is the fun in that. Forgot the photo
  10. 20 Oak leaf blanks followed me home today. They are 150mm (6 inch) high by 3mm (1/8th) thick. The plan is to feather the edges, add veins, curl them a bit like a real leaf. round off the stem and curl it up as a coat hook. One of my suppliers has a laser cutter and he knocked them out cheap for me as a favour. I'm busy building a new bench and steel rack so it will be a while before I get to them but I will post the finished results in the what I did today thread.
  11. A pal of mine just got back from 8 weeks off work with Covid, 2 of those weeks were in hospital on Oxygen. Not the full they knock you out and force it in job fortunately. He was double vaccinated 3 months before catching it. I got my jabs as soon as I was eligible but it seems you can still get a bad dose of Covid. In the UK they are starting a third booster jab for those over 50 very soon and those under 50 with health conditions so I will be getting that as soon as I can too. On the flip side we have a dyed in the wool anti vax bill Gates puts chips in the vaxination etc guy who tested positive 2 months ago, all he got was a slight cough for 24 hours. Now I wouldn't wish him dead but I did hope due to his stance and him believing every thing of Facebook as fact that he would have had a hard ish time of it but no, catching covid with little to no symptoms has just confirmed his belief that its all a government conspiracy to control the people.
  12. Alexander, you sir are a true craftsman. Stunning work as always.
  13. That is a cracking idea. Time for me to raid my old tool box. I replaced all my imperial tools with metric ones about 15 years ago but couldn't bring my self to part with the old ones.
  14. Frosty, my take on life is its too short not to have fun. I'm the one that all the kids flock to being a big kid myself. Back when we used to do the big camping trips of 30+ people with the canoe club the parents would be chilling out whilst myself and my mate Phil would be on the river from sun up to sun down entertaining their kids, teaching them to build rafts and rope swings. I always managed to bring 20 or so wagon tyre inner tubes, rope and a few rolls of gaffer tape. Normally by the end of the day we would have not just the kids from our group but most of the kids on the camp site plus a few random fathers who officially had been sent over by the wives to keep an eye of young Billy in the water but in reality they wanted to wind the clock back a few years and shoot the "rapids" on an inner tube too. Never had kids myself but I was the fun uncle to hundreds.
  15. I think I would have the opposite problem if I shaved JHCC. Frosty that's class explaining about modern prosthetics with a rubber chicken on your shoulder
  16. Ted, when you say not easy I think you are understating things a bit. That rail looks great.
  17. I bought a second hand milling machine for work and they threw this in foc. It's welded up all over the place, had to fix the drop control and every Bush is worn out but she cuts well enough for smiting projects, well she does once I put the blade in the right way round
  18. My Mrs says she will divorce me if I ever shave clean. Hmm pirate blacksmith, that's an idea
  19. Das be prepared if you decide to open that roll, I bought one for strapping at work and put it in the dispenser upside down. When I tried to flip it over it got away from me. Took the apprentice hours to wrap it back up again.
  20. This is why I started my post with. If it's allowed in your area So many different regulations, interesting about silver solder and flared joints too. Again not a thing in the UK, normal soldiered joints are fine.
