  2. hops hook update..the finish seems to be holding up really well..we've had a pretty wet summer..just had my first pickn' of some buds..

  4. thanks folks for your nice comments..this is also a test for a clear coat finish on the metal.I used helmsman sparurathane satin..it worked well when I lived in texas, we'll see how it does in north carolina..and yes if all goes well i will make up a batch of home brew in the fall

  6. this year i decided to try to grow hops..the plants or vines will grow up to aruond 20 feet so i needed to come up with some kind of way to support the vines..I made this hook and ring..the hook was forged out of 5/16 x 2& 1/2 flat stock..finished length about 45 inches.. the leaf and branch is out of 1" round..ring out of 1/2" round.
  7. you could check with michigan artists blacksmiths association(MABA)..i think they still have a tool loan program..that could help get you started.
  8. chris..amet made that rounding hammer under the big blu using the aggressive fuller dies..they are narrow and more rounded than the narrow side of the combos..as for the length of steel for the holder its really up to you..drw out a radius on the table that works for you and measure for the stock length..remember it will strech a little due to the fullering..we have several different sizes in the shop.we just used what we had.
