 So far I love my new anvil. I find the flat horn useful and it is very stable. I did find out that it can be dented. My brother missed and hit the edge of his hammer pretty hard. Left a small dent thats hard to find but you can feel it with your finger slightly. I knew it would happen eventually.  

I have only radiused a few inches opposite where I stand and not much at that. Not sure how much I want so I figured I would use it for awhile first. 

Would you knock off the corners regardless?  Thanks

One early comment is more mounting related. When I first set it on the stand it rang so loud and sharp that it literally hurt your ears. After researching this forum I set it in a bed of silicon, stuck a $4 HF magnet on the horn, strapped it down and the sound was amazingly dulled!  

Listen to the short before and after videos. To get the real effect, put on your headphones and crank the volume but it doesnt do it justice. 

Not only is it quiet to work on but the silicon has made it one with the stand and it rock solid and doesnt move at all. Very happy with the mount

Interesting the 30 at the end of the horn, I would have thought untreated carbon steel would be harder than that, but am admittedly ignorant

Blacksmith Depot says this of thier Kanca anvils “check the similarities of other drop forged anvils sold by others”

I have heard somewhere that Kanca was making the P-H but cant verify. Sure look the same

They are very similar in construction as they are drop forged State induction heat treat

I believe the Handwerkzeuge is made by Kanca in Turkey. Thier website stated that they are again offering anvils due to popular demand but they look very similar to the Kanca. There are diferences in the horn but the rest looks identical and the specs and details  for both are exactly the same. 

In my opinion, you are paying for a Peddinghaus - Handwerkzeuge name and getting a Kanca anvil - but Ive been wrong many times before so dont quote me haha

Both the Kanca and Ridged are about the same price delivered in the 165 pound model. I like my new Kanca so far. Good luck and share some pictures

Newby myself and I just bought a 165 pounder. 

 I really wanted a 275# Ridgid ($1550 delivered) but am real happy I didnt. First the 165 is huge compared even to my 100 vulcan, cant imagine needing anything heavier. Second it was about all I could manage moving and mounting it by myself. No way could i have with the 275 but I'm no spring chicken  

I didn't pay tax but both the ridgid and kanka 165’s were about $1050 to my door in SOAZ

That said I would love that big fisher !

Just a little info for those that care: I chose this anvil mainly due to cost and I wanted a forged anvil for no real reason other than my perception. I know that modern cast anvils are probably as good or better but I narrowed it down to the ridgid and the kanca.

Both were almost exactly the same price delivered but I have heard rumors of recent QC issues at ridgid and the fact that they were back ordered sealed the deal and drove me to the Kanca. 

There are surprisingly few reviews or images out there of this anvi and that is why I made this video and post but mostly to show off !

I spent 8 hours forging, several hours with the family and I had 2 sons in law, a daughter in law and my 11 year old all forging too. Other than a couple of minute scratches, there is not  a mark on it and the face feels like glass

needless to say I am very happy with it but must confess that I have nothing to gauge it on as I have never struck another anvil save my old Vulcan and my improvised mild steel chunk. I wish I could give an objective opinion but my subjective one is that I love and as Mr. Moose said, I hope to pass this on to my grandkids some time. Not until I give it a work out!

If I had a gripe it would be that the horn is a little blunt....

So I took a wire brush to the face and it removed the clear no problem but the paint was very stubborn. a few passes with a worn 80 grit flap worked pretty good. 

The bottom had the same coat of black paint but was machined dead flat 

the sides also appear machined at least at the weld

And then I lit the forge!

It had a clear coat on the face that looked brushed on and thick black paint every where else.

I will post a bunch of pics once I learn how to reduce the size using my iPhone. 

Spent 8 hours forging and I will share my opinion with the pics. 

My new anvil arrived as described with very fast shipping and excellent customer service. This is my first video and I hope this works.

I plan to take a bunch of pictures and srart a thread on anvils by brand after I get it cleaned up and beaten on.  First reaction - OMG!! Rebound appears 90% plus and the ring is shockingly loud!

A couple of rebar hooks for my rebar tong rack and a new style bottle opener made from spring steel. Believe you me, multiple tests prove that it works a treat  ;-)

Do different steel types show the same colors when tempered at the same temprature?

I ask because my first (bed frame) and second (coil spring) knife shaped objects came out dark straw and the third (leaf spring) came out pea cocky purple. 

All were quenched in oil and tempered at 425 for two hours in my toaster oven.

I was really hoping that Ridgid would make this right. I have now reconsidered my future anvil purchase and definately will not buy an anvil that I cannot test first.

Diaspointing for sure  and I hope the return shipping is reasonable. Thanks for sharing your tale of woe.
