  1. Well, I took advantage of the sunny day today and almost finished my new coal forge project. I bought another fire pot from Dave Custer and installed it. I really like those fire pots!

I still have to mount my blower and the tabs for the small opening piece. The culvert stack is 16" diameter. The table size is 42" square.

I bought this from my local industrial surplus store cheap. It was new and never used. It originally was a hopper made for the Philip Morris company. Now it's a forge/smokestack.

    How's that for irony!

Thanks again for all of your input guys!

  2. Go ahead and laugh! Oh, it's all a big joke to you folks....

"Your tax dollars at work" Our citizens must wake up to the dangers of  Zip Ties increasingly intruding into our homes and daily lives.

By being proliferated by reckless consumers, the Ziptie-istas have almost ruined the string and rubber band industry. Wake up America!

Thank God our nations "Hero's" rendered them harmless! All at the cost of a mere few fistful's of tax payers dollars. Gladly give up your privacy for security!

     I know I feel safer........

Two flap grinding disks, mounted back to back? Evidently, one spins the wrong direction then. Has that caused any issues?

I’d be concerned about the grinding flaps lifting and catching/grabbing the work out of your hand.

Hey Shady, Good eye! The worst one spins backwards and is not used except as a spacer. Just using it rather than tossing it.

Although I did try it once just to see and it didn't cause any problems. Not that I'd recommend it.

  4. Hey Michael,

I'm glad the package made it there finally!  Took a trip to my favorite used industrial surplus place today.

I picked up a mother load of 120" 3M 40 grit Trizack belts today. 100 lbs. worth. Great price.. $30

These will make great belts for my 2" x 72" Reeder belt grinder and my new surface grinder/belt grinder hybrid project.

I will be making a splicing fixture soon. I also got a box of used chisels today for $20 and I am really set on chisels for now.

That's on my list. Been looking at those little propane torpedo heaters actually. $75 or so from tractor supply.

I bought one from Tractor Supply and I use it to keep my shop just warm overnight. I also picked up a  water tank heater from TSC to keep my slack water from freezing. I put it on an 8 hour overnight cycle timer. Both work excellent in sub freezing temperatures!

    Greetings Stich,

Looks to me like a very limited use hammer for your shop. Look up the KA-75 hammer sold by Old World Anvils .. The working height of the one pictured is very low and would be a killer in your back. I have a KA and love it .

Hey Jim, Those KA's are great. I already have a tire hammer. This is going to be a project, maybe as a give away. As an Engineer and a Machinist I really like a challenge. I've designed and built countless machine tools over the years. I would like to see what I can make this do maybe. I appreciate the input absolutely for sure!

Okay, so the question is, Can Stitch turn a drop hammer into the equivalent of a KA-75?

If anyone can, It's me Lol!

  7. Hey guys... I am not sure if this is a Gem or not. My local used machinery sale place has 3 of these air powered drop hammers for sale.

I've been watching them for a while and the longer they sit there, the lower the price goes. I've been kicking around the idea of buying one and converting it for shop use as a project.

I would offer $900 for one probably.  Seems like they would work as a nice small air hammer with some modifications and the addition of a lift/pressure cylinder and some tooling.

Good idea or not? Whatcha' think??
