How did you make the scrolls?
Thanks Marc! I used a small scroll jig to make them.

Very nice, looking good!

I let it air harden then drew it at 400F for an hour and it turned out really tough! Works great for scroll starting.

A machinest friend of mine droped by my work this afternoon with a 5 gallon bucket of large used allen wrenches, said they were throwing them away at work. Anyone know what kind of steel these are ? Everything from 5/16 up to 3/4" was in there. Now to find a use for them :?:
This guy Jake, makes knives from them. I have been searching for a 1/2 to 3/4 wrench since I viewed his video!

In '59 nobody worried about hearing protection. That's why so many of us old timers need hearing aids now. In my case it was working in an automotive shop, gunfire and while in the USCG '64-68 as an engineman aboard ships & light houses, all noisy environments that my hearing suffers today.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice Sir! It is truly appreciated!

Very nice hammer. I like the way the head is secured in its tube. For future reference too prevent the lead from coming loose weld some ears into the inside of the head or run a a rod from one side to the other to give the lead something to form around.
Thank you! Man, that's a great idea Kal! Wish I'd known about that before I poured the lead! Oh well.... Next time!

Nice! Gets me thinking that a smaller pair would make some decent scrolling tongs.

Stitch, I have never seen a rounded jackhammer bit like those, where are they used? I agree that the tops look like tooling/stakes to me. Lop them off and sell them.
I believe these are raw forgings as they easily cut with a file. They are from Champion Chisel works, Rock Falls, IL.
I'm guessing that they are meant to be dressed to make custom ends and then hardened. I plan on giving some away to my friends that stop in!

I made a great score today... I picked up a load of new Jackhammer bits. 3/4" shank. 18" long. The ends will make good tooling and fullers too.
I also picked up about 30 big coil overhead door springs and 4 new truck coil springs. I have enough ring material and 5160 punch steel for several lifetimes!

I am curious, Has anyone ever tried etching electrolyte for etching?

What did you do in the shop today?
