  1. Sorry, I meant the chain maille we make as fun projects, I can never get my rings even , I weld mine so they tend to have a bulge . You made scale maille !?!? Wow, that's awesome ( applauds ) I think you love your work a little too much frosty ... Just kidding, i coulthae saiitbeter myself . Michael.
  2. "there are at least 300 million people on this continent that associate a "flaming" as a metaphor for out of the closet or actively homo sexual." Frosty. Thats not a thing in ZA, luckly . The area I live in has 4 different raven species and some of the old Xhosa ( an indigenous people to south Africa) stories tell of how ravens are ash that was brought to life by shaman to enable them to scout the area easially. It is also for Odin's ravens , Hüggin and Münnen ( spelling may vary ) who was said to go out and gather Intel for him . So the flaming part is then the forge / what made the ash for the ravens to spawn from . My sign will be a wooden anvil with a ravens outline painted on the side in firey colours ( my favourite idea so far ) I have to keep in mind my dads oppinion as well ( we share a shop building) he is super Christian so he won't accept anything he feels is evil ... I build a copper gauntlet once, I had to stop cause my dad said the spiky fingers on the gauntlet looks demonic ( just to give you guys an idea ) ...
  3. I didn't find any by that name, I just wanted to make sure Michael.
  4. Hi guys, I'm looking to officially name my shop soon, "Flaming Raven Forge" , I just wanted to run past you guys that the name isn't already taken ? ( in case I sucseed in making it into a business , I don't want to struggle with all that then ) Thanks Michael.
  5. Thanks for all the advice frosty, I'll be sure to put it to good use. Michael.
  6. Isn't all chain maille cruddy looking frosty ? Is it merely ornamental or is it proper armour ( bent shut or welded / rivited ( if you have the patients , skill, time )) Thanks Michael.
  7. Thanks frosty, I see what you meant, but is there any way that I can get my forge up to welding temp ? Michael.
  8. Show me your chain maille , please add ring sizes as well ...
  9. Why is it not a good thing ? For instance I do seal it, what will happen ?
  10. Thanks frosty , If I find a layout I like , can I use fire cement to seal little openings between bricks and maybe for a lining as well ? What can I do to make a BPF reach welding temp ? In stead if using those soft bricks... Thanks, Michael.
  11. Frosty, Thanks for posting your T burner plans online. Do you perhaps have plans for a Brick pile forge online ? I was just curious about roughly how much propane one of the 1"-3/4" T burners will use hourly ? Thanks Michael.
  12. Thebpostal code is correct, but I don't have a street address , so I can't fill that in
  13. I was using a 4 lb hammer, that's larger than the 1-50 rule allows for my anvil
  14. Thanks frosty, I'm using your T burner design with a 1"-3/4" T. I want to use 2 if them in a small forge which is 3 bricks flat, on them are 1.5 bricks on their sides at each side. And then 3 on top again. The opening will roughly be the size of a standard brick... Will that suffice ? Too many burners ? Thanks for the help, Michael.
  15. A can close my hand fast enough to make an audible clap, when I'm bored a play around like that and it has shaped up my forearms nicely. I know about catching your hammer on the rebound, but what le forging big things the hammer doesn't really bounce back that much . Thanks for any advice
  16. I can sympathise with that, I'm ambidexterious, so I swap hands after a couple of blows, Tue first large project I forged was an axe. The next day I couldn't bend my arms cause the joints hurt too much , and I work in construction so healthy arms are needed
  17. That's the kind of sight that makes me wish for Friday to come sooner ( Friday is officially my unofficial forge day )

    Bent post

Fhow do I tell if its wrought iron ? What exactly is wrought iron ?
  19. I already haflve the plans for the T burner and an idea for an ajustable brick forge, so now the vacation must come so that j can build it . how do I know if I have the correct flame ? Thanks Michael.
  20. That sounds like something I'll be able to do too, I've always liked them but my mom wouldn't allow it when I started shaving, sad I'll slash my own throat by accident. Isn't that the real purpose of life ,To create things for those who lack the drive or means to do so ? Have you ever made any fixed blade razors ? I just love the look of this one !
  21. I tried to going straight razor place, i couldnt register cause my adress was not valid cause I live on a farm. I like hand finishing work, from the anvil to filing and sanding for days and weeks ... Do you perhaps know where in south Africa I can find such stones , or someone that might know ? Thanks Michael. PS. What is the width ratio ? Relevant to what is the ratio measured, the thickness ?
  22. The 4th one is an old tool used for twisting metal as far as I know. And the second one looks like something to hold things togeather, like maybe to lock tongs in a closed position ?
  23. I dinbhae a forge yet, so I use an oxy-acetylene torch, creates quite some scale ... Luckily I'm on my way to builidbg a forge
  24. Roughly how much of your metal gets lost due to scale ? Let's say you re-forge tong tips, normal mild steel , it should just be strong enough to pick up other metal ... Thanks for the reply, Michael.
