Some Work of Mine (Hammerhead Shark)
ANGRYANVIL replied to ANGRYANVIL's topic in Metal Sculpture & Carvings
Yes i used railroad spikes for the head and a left over peice i forged for the tail. I had a guy a while back pay me with two 5 gallon buckets of railroad spikes for one of my bottle openers. I have been looking at them for a while now and stated making railroad spike creatures and people. this was my first shark. working on a fishing one now. -
thank you everyone.
-
its not all forged but some of my work is starting to take on a hybrid look of forged and welded. This work i am going to donate this month to a local fishing tournament that raises money for disabled veterans. This is 12 in long and 5 in wide.

After reading many post i got down to the nitty gritty and started my forge. Got this done in about an hour and a half but now its at a standstill till i get the rest of the stuff to finish the burner and to coat the inside. One thing that i have tried was to finish this with as litttle invested as possible. So far everything is what i had laying around that i had already paid for. I also had a turbo torch kit i havent been useing that is for lp gas or mapp gas that i am concidering to use or i can scrap parts off this old gas grill that i found in some ones trash. For the inside im getting ready to get a new water heater and wonder if the guts of that thing can be used from the old water heater some how. Just my rambleings.

Im typing this on the fly before i head of on a trip. But i have been making stuff now more often thanks to request for my openers. One thing i failed to concider was a coating to apply to everything after i was done to protect them. Im sure this is already posted but what have you guys been useing. I was on youtube and saw some recipe for a solution made from beeswax, tupitine and some oil. I thought about spraying a polyuathane on it but thought that would chip after a while. I am still learning as I go and i learn after watching how stuff is done also trial and error kind of guy. Thanks in advance. David Sanders

Ok i tried out some new techniques today on my Angry Openers. I went with a twisted rubix and a hole style opener. With some more practice i will get better at it. Thanks Black Frog for your tutorial on YouTube for the opener. -

Glad you like it man. Thanks. all i did was get an 8 in section of 1/2 in round bar. took a die grinder and made the stamp. Heated back to cherry red and quinched it in old oil. Walla my own trade mark. Im having fun. -

Frosty and BillyO, I have an old LP Gas tank that is past its date. Ive got some weld on hindges and latches. just need to figure out the gas nozzle and instulation. Ive been welding for 20 yrs now so i could make it out of anything. Too bad i couldnt find an old trainer bomb that would make a sweet little forge. BTW had some more fun today. Designed my own makers mark to stamp on the side. And I think I upped myself. I had an idea and went with it. I think im going to call them Angry Openers. -

it got the green from the galvanization i had to clean off prior to working the metal. While in a well ventilated area i will say. it was the only sheet metal i had at the time. -
Just found this site and figured id sign up. Been a Navy welder for 18 years now but have played with blacksmithing every now and then when i get the chance. I have slowly been building up my tools to use. One thing i like to do is refurbish old equipment and tools to use. My anvil is an 1820s Hermatage Mousehole that i found. It needs some repait to the hardface but as soon as i get the time i will get this done. im about half way done on building myself a propane forge to get myself going. majority of what i have done is roses i have made the wife and have been useing a rosebud torch to heat my metal. I have made a few scrap metal choppers and other welded art figures as well. Ive got a pile of rail spikes screaming at me to do something with but im waiting to get my forge completed first. Hope to get more projects done as time lets me and i hope to learn more from this sie as well. David
