  1. Just to clarify what Woody said "pins or rivets of the same material". If you are going to use 416 stainless bolsters you have to use 416 stainless pins (or whatever material) if you want them to look "invisible". Stewart
  2. I have 3/4 acre and planted a "rainforest garden" in the back 1/4 acre. So I can walk out into "my rainforest". Carl, I wonder if the A De-havilland Vampire ( only one in the World flying) a Gloster Meteor ( only one in the world flying) BAC Canberra ( one of a couple) come from Temora. Temora Aviation Museum I suppose the "apprentice" is still wary of me.:o
  3. I had one for a while in Grade 8, we made a 6" x 3" x 2" tray and made "ninja stars" with scrap. A "tradie" would probably have a fit how I make knives ........ but they seem to work. Sold a couple Carl. Forget the mini gardening tools Carl, knives are what you want to make, unless it is a "mini machette" for when the "herbs" get unruley.
  4. Carl I have a "crook knife". I bought one in May after I saw your attempts. I am a bit confused, are you trying to make a metal spoon out of the spanners. So you carve with your "crook knife" a depression and then beat the steel into a spoon type shape? Stewart Matt and Carl, I fired up "Puff the Gas Wyvern" (it is only a small forge)the other day, TOO COOL. I have to finish off my "knifemakers anvil". The hardie hole and hardie tools are thought out, just have to make them and then I will post a photo of them, unless I get to excited and start making knives and forget the photos (likely).
  5. Dale, I wonder steels were used in the "handmade damascus steel"? I make a few knives and I would struggle to get the materials together for the $110. (steel, ray skin etc). Like the bunnies........... Stewart
  6. I am waiting for a Cutlers Anvil to appear. There must be thousands of them around. Stewart
  7. I used to use something completely different, but to the same end. Have a look here Laventrix knife forum I would have probably bought that machine instead of the mandrels. I use a Radiusmaster grinder now and make most knives using the 3 wheels on the Radiasmaster now. As intimated the sleeves might wear out quickly, the mandrels did but made a big difference with finish. Stewart
  8. Hello Mark, I am obviously here learning about the "dark side" of knifemaking. So 3 guys within one hour drive from Brisbane, but you are 1 hour south, carl is 1/2 hour west and I am one hour north,
  9. Carl phoned me today about this site, I had already registered about, well, 3 days ago. I am more a knifemaker. I have made a few knives using stock removal and a couple by forging. I have just remade my gas forge (finally) and fired it up yesterday afternoon. Had some time with Karim at Thawra Forge in Canberra 18 months ago. Wayne I think I have met you at a couple of Brisbane Militaria Shows. Stewart
