R.C.Edmondson
I am new to all of this and was hoping somone would lend me alittle knowledge about how people attach bolsters onto knives. I have seen many pictures of knives with horn for scales and then on top of it their would be brass bolsters and I thought it was beautiful, Thanks for the info and Godbless, Charlie Heres a pic of one like Im talking about
Woody
The bolsters are pinned or riveted on the same as the scales on the handle. You can either use pins or rivets of the same material as the bolster then when they are sanded off and finished they are next to invisible, or you can use pins of a contrasting material, i.e. Brass on stainless steel or vice versa. Graham Fredeen
Some also choose to braze on the bolsters before the HT (usually only with brass bolsters however), or to use low temp silver solder (melts about 400 F or so, so it wont mess up the HT) after HT. Phantom23
Just to clarify what Woody said "pins or rivets of the same material". If you are going to use 416 stainless bolsters you have to use 416 stainless pins (or whatever material) if you want them to look "invisible".
